The VASCOVID team welcomes aboard the pioNIRS start-up, which spun off from Politecnico di Milano in 2020.

The company pioNIRS started with the aim of developing and commercializing innovative instrumentation and techniques for time-domain Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (TD-NIRS). Their objective is to provide state-of-art technologies using light, to non-invasively investigate the internal properties of biological tissues and samples.

Researchers Mauro Buttafava and Michele Lacerenza, co-founders of the start-up, will team up with the rest of the partners to achieve the set goals. They will focus on the deployment and development of the VASCOVID prototype and modules, being an active and relevant party throughout the certification and exploitation phases of the project.

“VASCOVID is going to be a turning point for photonics technologies helping people in these challenging times. PIONIRS is here to boost the project for the best outcome”. Michele Lacerenza, pioNIRS co-founder and CTO.
